Who I Am and My Mission
My name is Lucio Pozone. I was born in Naples, Italy, in 1963, and my musical journey began in L'Aquila, where I started studying the violin at the Alfredo Casella Conservatory at the age of eight. At fifteen, I discovered the classical guitar and studied with Agostino Valente, Henry Rivas and Alirio Díaz.
I fell in love with flamenco guitar while I was still in high school, after my Italian literature teacher gave me a record by "a certain" Paco de Lucía. It was a life-changing musical experience, and I could never have imagined that one day our paths would actually cross.
Back in the 1970s, finding a flamenco guitar teacher in Italy was virtually impossible. Then, thanks to a remarkable priest, Don Roberto Sardelli, who had a deep passion for Romani culture, I had the opportunity to travel to Andalusia for the first time. There I studied with one of the greatest flamenco masters and a close friend of Paco de Lucía: Manolo Sanlúcar.
From that moment on, Andalusia became my second home. Over the following years, I returned many times to continue my studies with Manolo's brother, Isidro Sanlúcar, and other outstanding masters. In 2008, I moved to Seville for an extended period, living alongside the people who have preserved the true spirit of flamenco for generations. It was there that I discovered my mission: to help guitarists learn flamenco in a clear, practical and accessible way, avoiding the same obstacles I had to overcome without proper guidance.
Throughout my career, I have collaborated with numerous Italian and Spanish artists, performing at television shows and music festivals in Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, Germany and Brazil. I have recorded two albums and founded the FlamenTangoProject. Yet my greatest passion has always remained the same: teaching flamenco guitar to those who truly love this extraordinary art.
I owe special thanks to my Italian literature teacher, Piero Vicari, and to Don Roberto Sardelli, who opened the door to this incredible musical journey. Thanks to them, I had the privilege of meeting and learning from legendary artists such as Paco de Lucía, Manolo Sanlúcar, Isidro Sanlúcar, Gerardo Núñez, Vicente Amigo and many other exceptional musicians.
